I love Latin food.
My favorite restaurant in Boston is Orinoco, despite its carnivorous menu. The mushroom empanadas come with the salad of your dreams, and I order it every time. Their quinoa side dish has a delightful spicy kick, and the arepas, well, they are fried corn cakes with delicious cheese stuffed inside. They’re as good as they sound.
This past weekend I was in New York City and went to Calle Ocho, a latin restaurant on the Upper West Side. They did have a mushroom paella on the menu, but I settled on the side dish combination, often the best choice for vegetarians at meat-centric restaurants. This dish had arepas, yuca fries, black beans and rice, and plantains (plenty to share). While the vegetarian options weren’t quite as good as Orinoco, I’ll be back for more…

Beth, great minds think alike – Orinoco is my favorite restaurant too – by a mille! I see a ladies’ night in our future.
